Goals

01

Awareness and education

Through workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns, the project increases knowledge about the environmental impact of filmmaking. Through these activities, we aim to increase awareness and promote behavioural change towards more sustainable filmmaking.

02

Capacity building

Through the Activity: Sharing of knowledge and exchange of green and sustainable practices between Bitola and Sarajevo, young filmmakers and audiovisual professionals gain hands-on experience and practical skills in implementing eco-friendly production methods. By participating on the project events, collaborative sessions and peer-to-peer networking sessions, these emerging professionals strengthen their ability to apply sustainable practices in their creative projects, fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious filmmakers across the region.

03

Policy advocacy

The project advocates for supportive policies and incentives that foster the adoption of green standards in the film sector, strengthening the link between culture, sustainability, and urban development.

04

Research and data collection

Research activities, surveys and interviews provide valuable insights into current sustainability practices in the film sector. The collected data identifies barriers, measures progress and informs policy recommendations. This will provide valuable findings for future decision-making and policy development.

05

Partnership and collaboration

The project aims to support and accelerate the cultural, socio-economic, and sustainable urban transformation of the city of Bitola and Sarajevo as one of the 26 member cities of the UNESCO Creative Film Cities network and transfer knowledge of good eco practices in film and creative industries through shared knowledge and experience of fellow member-cities.

With the conduction of the project, a valuable collaboration is enhanced through exchanges between Bitola, Sarajevo and fellow UNESCO Creative Cities of Film such as Potsdam, Bristol, and Terrassa:
• Potsdam contributes its experience with the Green Visions Festival, combining climate research and film.
• Bristol shares best practices from The Bottle Yard Studios, recognized with the Studio Sustainability Standard.
• Terrassa brings its model of film studios, creative incubators, and sustainability-focused grant programs for young creatives.

These collaborations strengthen knowledge transfer and foster innovation in sustainable film production.

06

International Cooperation

The project connects Bitola and Sarajevo with over 350 member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. International forums and panels bring together representatives to showcase eco-practices, exchange experiences and define strategies for sustainable cultural and urban development.

07

Policy Brief

As a key output, the project develops a Policy Brief that gathers recommendations, good practices and strategic steps for advancing sustainability in the film and creative industries. This document supports local authorities in Bitola and Sarajevo in aligning cultural and environmental strategies with broader sustainable development goals.
